Every effort is made to accommodate anyone desiring a Dove Release Ceremony however there are some situations that have to be considered before scheduling. Release Policy: Self Release Doves: Beware of vendors that ship or drop off birds for self-release. A professional handler, properly dressed for the occasion with equipment designed for release is necessary to supervise the release and attend the Doves for a safe, well-coordinated event. (Weather, traffic, trees and building obstacles and the location of your guests are just a few things to be considered.) Well trained white homing pigeons (Columbia Livia) are the only type of bird suitable for White Dove Releases. These birds have been trained and have the athletic and homing ability to return home. Note: Never release white ring neck Doves. Streptopelia “risoria’ Releasing is certain death for them. They will probably land right above you and stay there for days, this will ruin the whole effect of the Dove Release and you will be embarrassed. THEY ARE ‘CAGE TYPE’ DOVES ONLY. Are they pigeons or doves? They are all of the same Avian Order Columbiformes. The Rock Dove or Pigeon is a larger type of Dove and possesses the athletic and homing ability return home. Smaller Doves, (genus Streptopelia) even the ones bred to be white do not have these qualities and must not be released. They are for display purposes ONLY. Inclement weather: We will return balances if we must cancel the release due to severe weather. Heavy driving rain, fog, snow or other severe weather that a human being could not tolerate is a good rule of thumb. Every effort will be made to perform the Dove release as long as it is safe for the birds. Distance considerations: Releases within a 50 mile radius are generally safe. Well trained stock have a range of anywhere between 100 to 600 miles, depending on many variable factors such as weather, stock quality and training. There is an added fee for Releases outside of the 50 mile radius due to gas prices and time allowed for release coordinator. Time of Day: Well trained birds should be given adequate time to return home before dark. They are NEVER to be released in the dark. The distance of the event to the home Dovecote will help determine if a release can be booked. You may check ahead of time at the Naval Observatory website at http://timeanddate.com/worldclock/city.html?n=25
Who will release the Doves? Doves may be released by hand or by simply opening a basket. Release coordinator will hand them to the releaser and be there to supervise at every event, appropriately dressed and on time for the occasion. |
